O. Rajagopal, the Union Minister of State for Law, Justice and Company Affairs, launches the Company Law Settlement Scheme at Delhi and Haryana. The Scheme is intended to herald an era of trust, confidence and healthy partnership between the Government and the Corporate Sector.

The Group of Ministers (GOM) approve the Communications Bill 2000 "in principle". The Bill seeks to bring about convergence in information, communication and entertain-ment sectors by establishing an independent Communications Commission of India.
