India again test-fires successfully "Prithvi", the medium range surface-to-surface missile, from the Interim Test Range at Chandipur.

June 17

Lt. Gen. K.M. Seth is appointed Governor of Tripura, who succeeds Siddeshwar Prasad.

Air Marshal Vinod Patney is appointed Vice-Chief of Air Staff replacing Air Marshal B.S. Brar.

At least 34 members of Yadav community are suspected to be killed by Ranvir Sena, a private army of upper caste landlords, in Miyapur village, in Aurangabad district of Bihar.

Two-day G-15 summit begins in Cairo. Heads of State and governments from 17 countries are attending the summit.

The tenth G-15 Summit calls for an urgent adoption of the United Nations convention against international terrorism and cautions against forcing the pace of globalisation on developing countries.

British researchers working on Human Genome Project confirm the completion of working draft of the human genetic code, that will be a scientific milestone in transforming the understanding, treatment and prevention of diseases.
