| Set up in 1945,The Research, Reference and training Division functions as an information servicing agency for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, its media units and their field offices. It serves as an information bank as well as an information feeder service to the media units to help in their programming and publicity campaigns. It also studies trends in Mass Communication Media and maintains a reference and documentation service on Mass Communication. The Division provides background,, reference and research materials and other facilities for the use of the Ministry, its media units and others engaged in mass communication. The Division also looks after the training aspect of the Indian Information service (IIS) officers in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). |
Our Mission To provide high quality research and reference services to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and its Media Units for planning media policies, strategies and campaigns for effective mass communication and to develop human resources of these media units to be at par with the best in the world. We also produce packaged information for the media persons and media researchers and Scholars. E-Governance The Division is moving towards complete computerization of activities being done in its various units. The activities of Research, Reference and National Documentation Centre on Mass Communication have already been computerized. The activities of Administration and Library are likely to be computerized in near future. The staff of the Division has been trained to work on computers and internet surfing. This has improved not only the quality of the work done in the Division but also facilitated proper storage and timely retrieval of information for further use. The Division has already launched its web site www.nic.in/rrtd, which incorporates information about the Division as well as reference and information services being released by its different units.
